  Concrete grinding

Concrete grinding speeds vary with:

 floor surface hardness

depth of cut

coating to be removed

Situp N Grind will outperform a similar floor grinder by up to four times in an eight hour period in any of the above situations.

The main reason for this large increase in diamond grinding speed is a reduction in physical fatigue and rest breaks. Even a strong, experienced person has to take regular rest breaks while diamond grinding floors on their knees, but the frequency of breaks and the length of each break is much less when using a Situp N Grind resulting in huge time savings in a day.

The other factor determining how much concrete grinding is completed each hour is the efficiency of the grinder.

Situp N Grind cuts 100% of the time while other stand up grinders can only cut approx. 50% of the time. For more information about this go to Stand Up Edge Grinder where you can compare different grinders.

Concrete grinding with Situp N Grind is faster and easier

Concrete grinding speeds with Situp N Grind

Floor grinder speeds will depend on the hardness of the concrete floor, the thickness of the coating, what diamond disc is fitted and how much needs to be taken off?

The best is around 300-400 sq.ft./hr (30-40 sq.m/hr) if you are experienced and if you are grinding normal strength concrete that only needs the surface cleaned up.

This is very fast for an angle grinder, especially a concrete edge grinder and only expected from machines that cost three times the price and use a lot more power.

Surface Preparation speed

Normal surface preparation of concrete will be achieved at around 200 to 250 sq.ft/hr (20-30 sq.m/hr).

bullet

Epoxy removal

Removing thin epoxy will be a little slower than the above - around 150 to 250 sq.ft/hr. (15-25 sq.m/hr). For thicker epoxy up to 300 microns this may reduce to 70 sq.ft/hr. (7 sq.m./hr).

bullet

Acrylic paint removal - sealers, paving paint

Removing thick paving paint or acrylic coating (not epoxy) will take much longer. Speeds reduce to around 70 to 100 sq.ft/hr (7-10 sq.m/hr) or less because acrylic paints melt and become sticky which slows down the diamond grinding process.

bullet

Glue removal is similar to acrylic paint.

Exposed Aggregate speeds

Exposing the aggregate requires deeper grinding that is not as fast as surface preparation and can vary between 30 and 60 sq.ft/hr (3-6sq.m/hr) for each pass if you choose the right diamond disc. It may require two or more passes to achieve the required depth.
